Unbelievably good wine priced under 25 dollars

Hello Wine Fans,

This is our under $25 focused update. Here you will find some of our recent favorite wines under Twenty-five dollars. I will include some classic long standing winners, as well as the most exciting wines I see from across the desk in my daily tasting, always seeking out the latest and greatest in the segment. Fine tuning as we go and enjoying the stops along the way.  Just how is it possible to make wine this good for so little?

Lambert de Seyssel Brut Petit Royal Seyssel France ($21)

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The village of Seyssel, in the French Alps, has a history of viticulture dating back centuries, having built a reputation for floral-scented charmers from the local grapes, Molette and Altesse. Produced in the méthode traditionnelle and aged for two years sur latte, the Petit Royal is unequaled in the world of sparkling wine: alpine flowers, dried fruit, wildflower honey, and a toasty, yeasty note give this value sparkler an utterly delightful aromatic richness and complexity. Serve it with various salty toasts to kick off your next dinner party, or pop one open to liven up a night at home with a big bowl of mac and cheese.

I could write out my own tasting notes but do not see much need after the well done review above. Beautiful light and airy but with the intensity to impress with both its aromas and flavors. That paragraph needs a mic drop. It is an accurate, sharp and concise assessment of the matter at hand. Criminally under-priced for what it is, yet again. Please do not tell anybody though. It is just for you, my readers.

Pairing is straight forward outside of red meat most anything goes.
Cheese, especially softer cheeses come directly to mind. (Raclette) would be legendary. Have as an aperitif, pair with crab, oysters, crayfish, prawns with garlic, trout, or fried chicken. Anything that you would pair with champagne is going to work in general.

A big bowl of mac and cheese has already been mentioned, and as a low key flavor and happiness packed food it can be hard to beat. Dressed up with a bit of bacon, mushrooms fresh out of long butter rich saute and a dash of fish sauce is a go too. (thank me later).

Domaine Bregeon Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie France ($22)

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Long praised as the ultimate oyster wine—an entirely deserved reputation—Muscadet can be even more than your drink of choice to chase bivalves. Uncommonly full and rich but still sporting the crisp acidity and low alcohol that make it so sessionable, this 2022 is a Muscadet to enjoy with oysters as well as alongside seared scallops, warm mussels, or roast chicken.
It fills the mouth with suspicions of honeysuckle and pulpy stone fruits, all while maintaining classic notes of iodine and sea breeze that make this the vinous equivalent of tidepooling.

Michel Brégeon is part renegade spirit, part terroir crusader, and a master of the wine-making craft. His pride in and dedication to the Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine terroir is unwavering. Unlike others in the region who prioritize mass production, Michel approaches winemaking with a profound respect for the land. Enjoying a glass of his beautiful wine makes it quickly apparent.

Having started at his family’s domaine, Michel struck out on his own in 1975, inheriting his father’s remaining vineyard land in 1989. Today, he meticulously tends seven hectares of vineyards, planted in clay, silica, and gabbro soils that are hallmarks of his terroir.

Their Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, crafted from 100% Melon de Bourgogne, shows precision and elegance. Hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts. A masterpiece of lightness, focused acidity, and textured complexity.

To your Happiness and Health,

Robert Hayes
