Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay

Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay Is here for a very short time.

A long time favorite for many of you, Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay from South Africa is back in stock! Given the low production volume and value that is somewhat awe inspiring this wine is out of stock most of the year.
If you have never had Hamilton Russell Chardonnay let me give you a short introduction.

Hamilton Russell Makes terroir driven wins (no really) from a cool climate site in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation of South Africa. They make only Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Hamilton Russell has focused their plantings in the local stony clay rich shale derived soil. I am often reminded of white Burgundy when drinking these wines and they compare quite well. Many a Sommelier believed they were tasting White Burgundy while tasting this Chardonnay blind.

If you want to drink white Burgundy but not pay the $95+ a bottle price tag, this is your wine. This wine is well made with great balance; Hamilton Russell is making great Chardonnay consistently.

Pale yellow in the glass.Notes of apple, pear, lemon curd, vanilla, with hints of hazelnut. A fine line of minerality and focused acidity give structure and lift keeping everything in place, dancing across your palate. (Tasted 8/2/18)

This wine has a light touch of oak, enough to add another dimension but not overbearing. Leaning towards a well made Meursault more than Napa Valley style of Chardonnay.
